Pletnev's refined lecture of the pieces and the clarity of his sound are remarkable. As often, he makes some controversial choices. The cold-blooded Pletnev plays neither heroic nor ardent. For some listeners, he lacks the emotion necessary for Liszt as shown by Horowitz and others in the past.
