Franz Schubert: The Symphonies - Peter Maag, Philharmonia Hungarica

Franz Schubert: The Symphonies - Peter Maag, Philharmonia Hungarica
Box-set 5 CDs; Release date: 2006; Recording date: 1969; Label: Membran / Documents

I would like to share almost forgotten brilliant recording of Franz Schubert Symphonies cycle by Peter Maag with Philharmonia Hungarica. Little known and little publicized, Peter Maag was a musician of the great class, noted for his carefully crafted performances of the music of Mozart and Mendelssohn and for his enthusiasm for forgotten or neglected works, such as Schumann's opera Genoveva and Cavalieri's Rappresentatione di Anima, et di Corpo. His recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra in the 1950s and 1960s had become collector's items. Many can not forget his perfectly accurate and balanced interpretation of the "Scottish Symphony" with the London Symphony Orchestra for Decca.
