J.S.Bach: Harpsichord Music - Gustav Leonhardt
Suite BWV 996; Fantasia & Fugue BWV 904; Toccata BWV 914;
Capriccio BWV 992; Prelude, Allegro, and Fugue BWV 998
Gustav Leonhardt playing harpsichord by William Dowd, Paris, 1984, after M.Mietke c.1715, Berlin, A=415
Recorded in Haarlem, Holland, December 1984
Note: The photo on the front cover is not of the instrument in the recording, but rather of Leonhardt's antique French double by Lefebvre, one of the finest harpdsichords. The Lefebvre placed in the elaborate French salon on the second floor at Herengracht 170. The Mietke, which placed downstairs in the parlor is a very striking instrument visually, since Leonhardt had it veneered in a very elaborate fashion. It too is a very fine harpsichord.
